Bella Okagbue, has recently expressed her distress over being constantly body shamed and voice shamed.

The recent incident began when she shared a video on her Snapchat and Instagram stories of herself singing along to a song with her boyfriend, Sheggz. A girl shared this video on Twitter with a caption that appeared to mock Bella’s voice.

In response to the tweet, Bella sent the user a direct message in which she expressed her deep hurt and frustration. She cursed the user’s future children in her message.

While the user may achieve financial success and have a family, Bella believes her children will suffer from speech impairments.

As Bella typed with tears in her eyes, she stated that this curse was sent with great emotional pain.

Bella also revealed that she, too, is someone’s daughter and has a voice, even if it’s different from what might be considered typical.

She expressed gratitude for being able to speak, despite the criticism she faces for her voice. In her message, Bella also wished the user a lack of peace and asked her to remember the date of the conversation.

Bella also went on to publicly share her thoughts over constantly being subjected to various forms of shaming, including for her body, voice, and accent. She expressed how tired she was with with the continuous ridicule.

“For the first time, I will pray for a stranger from the bottom of my heart. You will have money, You will get married, you will even have kids but one of your kids won’t be able to speak. won’t have a voice. You will fly that child round the world seeking for a solution but you won’t find. Mark my words today. Typed this with tears in my eyes and so shall it be.

I’m somebody’s daughter and I have a voice. It may not sound like a regular giris voice but she’s glad I’m able to speak.

You shall know no peace, In.

Amen

Save tadays date,”

In response, the Twitter user clarified that her intention was not to troll or harm Bella, but rather to be humorous rather than malicious.

This explanation, however, did not appease the public or Bella herself. Many people agreed with Bella, claiming that the user’s post, which included a laughing emoji, was meant to be mocking.

“BELLA OKAGBUE 4 © @bella okagb…. 1h I’m constantly body shamed, voice shamed, accent shamed and shamed for everything I do.

Enough is enough. I’m Nigerian and I sound Nigerian!!! Let me be!”
