Enugu High Court Orders PDP To Replace Sen Anyanwu As National Secretary

Court Decides: Judgement on Matawalle's Suit Against EFCC, ICPC Slated for August 30Court Decides: Judgement on Matawalle's Suit Against EFCC, ICPC Slated for August 30

In response to a notice move submitted by Nwabueze Ugwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, an Enugu State High Court has issued an order declaring the position vacant.

In Enugu, the court issued a temporary order requiring the defendants in the case—the PDP national chairman, national secretary, and deputy national chairman South-East—to acknowledge Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the candidate the South East Zonal Executive Committee recommended to succeed the outgoing national secretary while the motion on notice is being considered.

The plaintiff filed a move for notice under Order 38 Rule 1, Order 39 Rule 1 of the High Court Rules of Enugu State 2020, according to trial Judge Justice C.O. Ajah. The motion was supported by 23 paragraph affidavits that the applicant had deposed to.

However, in order to continue the request on notice, the court postponed the hearing to October 30, 2023.

Last weekend, the PDP Southeast Zone unanimously nominated Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, a former national youth leader of the party, to be the party’s new national secretary.

The choice was made, according to Chief Ali Odefa, the party’s vice national chairman for the South East Zone, to let Senator Anyanwu focus on his Imo State election campaign.

“The position of the National Secretary will be a kind of distraction to his electioneering campaign and victory at the polls.

“Therefore, the South-East Zone, having met and brainstormed, we have come up with a nomination from Enugu State in the person of Rt. Hon. S.K. Udeh-Okoye to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We shall send our resolutions in writing to the National Working Committee of our great party for ratification on behalf of the National Executive Committee as provided by our party constitution,” he submitted.
