Nollywood actress Evan Okoro has strongly addressed the public backlash regarding her and other stars’ absence from the traditional wedding of her colleagues, Ruby Orjiakor and Onwa Idemili.
In a recent video aimed at countering the criticism, Evan fervently articulated the reasons for her and several others’ non-attendance at the event, despite Ruby being one of her closest friends.
The wedding, held over the weekend, featured Ruby and Onwa, whose relationship has faced considerable scrutiny, exchanging vows in a ceremony attended solely by family and close friends.
To the surprise of many, no Nollywood celebrities were seen at the event, prompting an uproar on social media. Fans, dismayed by the absence, inundated the social media accounts of Ruby’s close friends, accusing them of neglecting to support the couple on their significant day.
Evan, visibly exasperated by the backlash, took to social media to clarify the situation. She firmly rejected the allegations and disclosed that Ruby and Onwa had intentionally decided not to invite her or any other Nollywood stars to the traditional wedding.
According to Evan, the couple opted for an intimate and personal celebration, a choice that she and others respected.
In a defiant tone, Evan reassured critics that Ruby had promised to extend invitations to her and their colleagues for the forthcoming white wedding, which is anticipated to be a grand event.
Evan also firmly opposed accusations of jealousy or attempts to undermine the couple. She emphasized that such assertions were entirely baseless and sought to dismantle the false narrative of envy and rivalry within Nollywood that some individuals are attempting to propagate.
