The former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has asserted that he enhanced the nation’s economy during his eight-year tenure in office.
He remarked that, during his presidency, both the economy and security were in a better state than when he assumed leadership.
Buhari made these comments on Wednesday while receiving members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, during a courtesy visit.
He reflected on the period prior to his administration, which succeeded the government led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that the country was grappling with significant security and economic issues. He claimed that his administration effectively addressed the threats of terrorism and economic difficulties.
He elaborated that the security and economic strategies developed and executed by his government were instrumental in alleviating the challenges he inherited from previous administrations.
Speaking in Hausa, Buhari stated, “Security and economy improved significantly in Nigeria under my administration compared to what we met in 2015. Things will continue to improve in Nigeria.”
As reported by Arise News, the former President indicated that only those within the corridors of power truly comprehend the administrative challenges facing the nation, emphasizing that leaders often encounter obstacles in the execution of policies and programs.
Earlier, Yusuf Ibrahim-Jargaba, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, commended the former President for his efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security issues during his time in office.
Ibrahim-Jargaba further noted that Buhari’s diligence, commitment, and selfless service contributed to the nation’s unity.
