The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has met with the coup leaders in Niger Republic.
According to Report, the former Emir of Kano met with the military leaders in Niamey, the nation’s capital, in an attempt to resolve the impasse with ECOWAS.
Pictures and videos of Sanusi, who is the Khalifa of the Tijjaniya sect in West Africa, have gone viral on social media on Wednesday. According to reports, the Islamic sect has a large following in Niger.
Sanusi’s meeting with the coup leaders comes days after the military junta failed to meet with representatives of African Union (AU), Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and a top US diplomat.
A delegation raised by ECOWAS could also not broker peace with the military rulers during a recent meeting. The delegation was led by a former Nigerian military leader, Abdusalaami Abubakar and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
