A source in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has verified the arrest of a former Minister of State for Power, Olu Agunloye.

Remember when Agulonye was listed as sought by the anti-graft agency approximately a week ago? This was in connection with a $6 billion purported fraud involving the contentious Mambilla hydropower project.

“The public is hereby notified that Olu Agunloye, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of corruption and forgery,” the agency wrote on its social media platforms.

It urged anyone “with useful information as to his whereabouts to contact the agency.”

“He has been with the EFCC since December 13th, But it was not made public,” the source said

Under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Agunloye served as a minister (1999–2003). He has been at the center of the Mambilla project issue.

He was accused by Obasanjo of illegally awarding the project’s contract without the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) consent. However, Agunloye refuted the charges and asserted that the outgoing president was falsifying information.

Regarding the same matter, the former minister was questioned by the EFCC in September.
