At the age of 72, Okupe served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan. He also held the position of Director-General for Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign.

Okupe’s political career was not without its controversies. In December 2022, he resigned from Obi’s campaign after being convicted of money laundering. Renowned for his assertive political views and candid opinions, Okupe was adept at navigating Nigeria’s intricate political environment, earning him both respect and controversy.

In addition to his political endeavors, Okupe was a physician and co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre. His political journey included a period of detention under General Sani Abacha and a disqualification from the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries. Furthermore, he was a gubernatorial aspirant for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

In other news, A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to express her anguish regarding the severe abuse she has endured in her marriage. She disclosed that her husband frequently assaults her, even during her pregnancy, and once left her locked outside after she experienced a miscarriage.

In a heartfelt post on her TikTok account, she shared her personal narrative, highlighting the challenges faced by many women who find themselves in abusive relationships.

She elaborated on the reasons why some women manage to escape such situations, while others remain trapped due to fear, financial constraints, or worries about their children.

Tragically, she emphasized that some women do not survive these circumstances.

She wrote:

“A lot of women are in abusive marriages, and the reason they are still there is because of their kids, not knowing where to go, and wondering how they will care for their children.”“If you’re a woman going through abuse, I understand — it’s not easy. It took me 4 years to realize that you can never change an abuser. No matter how much you try, it’s impossible.”

“Instead, they keep destroying you. Some women manage to leave in their 20s, some never leave, and some aren’t lucky enough to leave alive. Many women are victims just like me, and when children are involved, leaving becomes even harder.”

“As for me, I am leaving. People will say I’m leaving because of another man, but that’s not true. They’re also threatening to take my children from me if I leave, but I have to save myself.”

In reply to a comment on her post, she disclosed the traumatic experiences she faced: “A man that beats me when I’m pregnant? A man that hits a new mom? A man that locks his wife out after a miscarriage? God will judge you.”

As her poignant narrative spread across the internet, many individuals expressed their concern in the comments, providing support, encouragement, and advocating for justice.
