According to a recent Facebook post by Niger Delta Insider, the celebration isn’t just due to the man’s deeds, but also to the rarity of such creatures in the region.
The post included a statement that read, “A fisherman from Ogbolobolo community in Ahoada West LGA, Rivers State, is being celebrated by his people for catching a huge Manatee (Sea cow).”
“According to them, this sea mammal, called ASANIMA in their local dialect, is rarely captured, which is why he is being hailed for his bravery.”
The post also included images of the man, who was already covered in white stuff, surrounded by community members.
