Olarewaju Oludele, 50, a fake doctor, was placed under detention at the Agodi Correctional Center on Thursday by an Ibadan Family Court sitting at Iyaganku. Oludele is suspected of being the reason behind the death of a baby boy who drowned in a canal.
Due to a lack of jurisdiction, the magistrate, Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi, rejected Oludele’s appeal and forwarded the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal counsel. The case has been postponed until March 4.
The police charged Oludele with three counts, including murder, kidnapping, and impersonation.
The court was told by the prosecutor, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, that Oludele committed the crime on December 28, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital in Akinyele, Ibadan.
Adedeji clarified that the phony physician had taken the newborn kid from his hospitalized mother against her will and drowned him in a canal. Oludele also disguised himself as a licensed physician in order to con the mother and other members of the public.
Adedeji pointed out that the crimes were against Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Codes, which carry penalties of three years in jail for impersonation, fourteen years for kidnapping, and death for murder.
