Fashion Designer Calls Out Newlywed Couple Over Unpaid Debt

A Nigerian fashion designer, known on Instagram as Vicky’s Empire, has called out a couple, Fati and Sawala, for allegedly failing to pay for a custom-made wedding gown months after their wedding.

In a now-viral Instagram post, the designer claimed that the bride collected the dress without making any payment—a first in her years of business. She stated that it has been three months since the wedding, and despite repeated attempts, she has not received any payment or heard from the bride.

To back up her claims, Vicky shared a short video slideshow featuring wedding day pictures of the couple. One image showed the bride wearing the gown in question, while another captured the couple in traditional attire. The designer also posted their wedding invitation banner, clearly displaying the names of the couple and the event details.

This incident has stirred conversations online, with many netizens weighing in on the ethics of receiving luxury services without fulfilling payment obligations.

Similar accusations have rocked the entertainment industry in recent times. Actress Toyin Abraham was previously accused by a designer of holding onto costumes without payment for over a year—an allegation she later addressed publicly.

In another case, actress Susan Pwajok was called out for allegedly owing ₦900,000 for gadgets, with the vendor claiming she cut off communication.

Vicky’s public post is yet another example of how digital platforms have become a last resort for service providers seeking accountability from unresponsive clients.
