On Monday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, declared that the ministry had put in place a system to bring back monthly sanitation as part of efforts to keep the city clean.
The former governor of Rivers State reportedly said this after a private meeting with contractors overseeing various projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Wike, he has discussed the idea of designating at least two Saturdays per month for sanitation starting at 7 a.m. to 10 a. m with President Bola Tinubu.
Wike pointed out that the sanitation choice would assist businesses supplying the FCT with transportation logistics and other public spaces with the removal of trash.
According to the FCT minister, cooperation from all parties is required for Abuja to be clean.
We all need to make sacrifices, said Wike. Nothing compares to the suffering we will experience. You also contribute to trash.
“So, the little thing you can do to help is clear the trash and bring it outside so we can evacuate and dispose of it for three hours on a Saturday.
“In order to accomplish our objectives, we are pleading with you (the residents).
The minister claimed that there had been some progress regarding streetlights.
“Everywhere in Abuja will be lit up,” he assured them, “but we are not yet there.
