The Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA) has urged members of the national and state assemblies to offer scholarships to students in order to help them afford their tuition costs in the wake of the increase in prices for universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The coalition issued the call during its annual “Love Feast” celebration for stakeholders, which was hosted by the coalition’s Gombe State chapter.

Abubakar Abdullahi Hussain, the coalition’s coordinator for Gombe State, stated in his speech that all educational institutions, particularly federal ones in the state and nation, had raised their registration fees significantly out of concern for children whose parents are not well off might be forced to drop out from their schools while freshmen would be dissuaded from applying for admission

Hussain claimed that while the governments of certain states, including as Gombe State, do award scholarships to students each year, the impact is limited to those who are already enrolled in the institutions.

He said that national and state legislators should devise plans to provide scholarships to kids so they can enroll in universities, polytechnics, and education colleges.

Additionally, students have been complaining to the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) about not being able to pay their school fees “because the increment was high,” according to national president Adamu Muhammad Hinna.
