The federal government of Nigeria has directed the reopening of all schools, Gistlover can confirm.
Schools were closed across the country earlier this year so as to curb the spread of COVID-19.
This was made known earlier today by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who spoke at a media briefing.
According to him, ‘unity schools’ are to reopen on October 12th, 2020 while private and state schools will determine their own opening schedule.
Adamu Adamu also urged academic institutions to maintain strict compliance with COVID-19 protocol, as the cases of the virus in the country continue to reduce.
It can be recalled that earlier this year, the federal government directed the closure of all schools following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
The Federal Government had last month directed state governments and educational institutions to work towards ‘potentially reopening’ schools within the third phase of eased lockdown.
National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, who gave the directive said:
“For educational institutions which include daycare, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Educational institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening within this phase.
“However, we strongly recommend that states conduct risk assessment to ensure all schools are at a level of compliance and create a monitoring mechanism to assess, create, and monitor this level of preparedness.
“Meanwhile, all daycares and educational institutions are to remain closed to in-classes until this level of risk is assessed. And if there will be opening of schools, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the general public and in particular to vulnerable groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home.”
