Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on School Feeding, has revealed that the Federal Government intends to feed 100,000 displaced children in the North.

During a familiarization visit, Adeniji disclosed the idea to her delegation, which asked Mohammed Dantoro, the Emir of Borgu Kingdom, and Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, for assistance in facilitating the initiative.

According to the presidential adviser, the FG intends to launch the food program with 5,000 of the displaced children in the hopes of eventually expanding to 100,000.

Her media team revealed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

The statement read, “It is noteworthy that Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, and her team paid a courtesy visit to HRH Dr. Barrister Mohammed Sani Dantoro, the Emir of Borgu Kingdom, to seek support in deepening the federal government school feeding programme.

“During the visit, the Emir expressed his commitment to providing continuous support for the programme initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also raised concerns regarding the challenges facing the school feeding programme, emphasising that effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation are crucial for its sustainability.

“This programme plans to capture 5,000 displaced children at the first instance, with the hope of increasing it to 50,000 and 100,000 subsequently.”

Adeniji went on to say that the Emir emphasized the significance of fulfilling the requirements for the initiative’s comprehensive implementation and the necessity of resolving any perceived roadblocks or difficulties.

As a follow-up to their familiarization trip in the North, the governor gave the delegation an audience shortly after they left the Emirate.

“We recognised the capacity of President Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant to bring reforms that will see to the success of the schools feeding programme.

‘We also believe the incorporation of the Almajiri as one of the new reforms in the programme is an idea that will help in taking them off the streets. We want to assure you of the support of the Nasarawa State Government towards meeting the objective of the programme,” the governor stated.

The traveling team also had a meeting with Aliyu Tijani, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons. There, they discussed how to promote cooperation and solve issues related to school feeding for a variety of kids, including IDPs, Almajiris, and people with disabilities.
