David “Davido” Adeleke, a popular Nigerian music artist, has finally opened up on his political leanings pertaining the 2023 presidential election.
The music star was offline during the general polls, so he was not among the celebrities who faced much backlash over their political views or preference, however, his fans and the media still sought to know the person he supported.
During a recent interview on Channel4news, the interviewer asked him which leader he supports, but he smartly wriggled his way out by declaring himself as a leader.
He spoke on how challenging the electioneering period has been for Nigerians and expressed happiness that his latest album, “Timeless” was received warmly despite being released during a time of general displeasure with the electoral process.
“Myself, I’m a leader myself,” he replied the journalist.
On the issue of other artistes who either chose to speak out or remain silent during the polls, Davido noted that he would not judge anyone for their decision.
According to him, people have different reasons for their actions and views, and as such some may not be able to handle the demands that come with political activity.
“The elections were tough. It was a tough period for Nigerians. I’m happy that I dropped the album and it was accepted. I know people are still going through a lot in the country and everybody knows that even in the past I have been vocal about politics.”
Davido added; “I don’t blame. Some people have families, and children. Do you understand? Some people are built for it, some people are not and I can’t blame anybody. I’m sure everybody has their views personally, you know? And if you dint want to talk about it, it’s obvious where you stand.”
