Liverpool have ended their 30 years wait for the Premier League trophy after a 2-1 defeat by Manchester City against Chelsea on Wednesday night confirmed them as champions.
Liverpool would have been crowned champions this weekend with a win against Aston Villa, however, Manchester City’s loss means they can start celebrating.
Chelsea won the match thanks to a late penalty strike by Willian. This is after Kevin de Bruyne’s brilliant second-half free-kick cancelled out Christian Pulisic’s breakaway goal for the Blues.
It is Liverpool’s 19th top-flight title and their first since 1989-90.
They would have won the title in March or early April had it not been the coronavirus pandemic which forced the league into three months suspension.
