120 people are now homeless as a result of a fire incident at Megida Onikanhun Compound, Edun Isale, Ilorin South Local Government. The fire consumed 44 rooms of a building and a mosque, according to a statement signed on Monday in Ilorin by Hassan Adekunle, the fire department’s head of public relations and media.
According to the statement, the Kwara State Fire Service was called to a fire at Megida Onikanhun Compound, Edun Isale, Ilorin South Local Government, on January 15, 2024, at approximately 11:08 a.m.
Firefighters responded to a late call and discovered Edun Market and the entire site completely engulfed in flames. A portion of the fence was taken down to provide improved access and aid in the battle against fires.
An SMS message requesting more personnel was sent to the Brigade Headquarters at 11:22 am. The skilled firefighters responded quickly, controlling the situation for an hour before putting out the fire entirely.
According to investigations, an unidentified individual started a fire in some trash, which sadly spread to the neighboring compound.
Adekunle sent Kuranga Adebayo, the representative of Magaji Megida Onikanhun, his sympathies. Although he applauded the fire department’s efforts, he pointed out that the event affected 44 rooms and a mosque, leaving over 120 people homeless. There were no casualties reported within the compound of 75 rooms.
Mr. Falade Olumuyiwa, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, reminded everyone to always be cautious, particularly during this time. In order to save lives and property in the state, he urged the public to never hesitate to notify the fire department as soon as there is a fire in their neighborhood.
