Singer Chinedu Okoli, known as Flavour, explained why he doesn’t feel concerned about the popularity of Afrobeats artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

He stated that he doesn’t consider himself an Afrobeats singer, but believes his style of African music should not be overlooked.

In an interview with Afrobeats podcast with Adesope_shopsydoo on Instagram, he mentioned that other African artists, such as Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, are also doing well in their careers.

The father of three mentioned that Africans are achieving success in various fields apart from music and should receive encouragement rather than only focusing on Afrobeats.

Many fans of the singer agreed with him and stated that he stands out on his own.

@evelyn____xx: “Let’s stop trying to put all our artists inside one box “afrobeat” We have other beautiful genres. Tired of this whole afrobeat-beat topic/discourse. Flavor isn’t afrobeat.”
