Between September 13 and September 17, 13 states and 50 municipalities, mostly in the North, are expected to see significant rains that could cause flooding, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
This information was released in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for NEMA.
Farinloye identified the states and localities, including Kano State and probable affected areas like Sumaila and Kunchi.
He added that communities like Argungu in Kebbi State and Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, and Katsina in Katsina State would be impacted.
He mentioned Niger, which includes the settlements of Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa, as well as Kwara State and the Kosubosu community.
“Zamfara State, with such communities as Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi; Bauchi State, with Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, Misau; Taraba, with Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro, and Borno State, with Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, Kukawa will be affected,” he said.
He added that Yobe, with Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina, and Potiskum communities, as well as Adamawa with Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, and Song communities, would both be affected.
The other states and villages that would be impacted, according to the territorial coordinator, were Gombe State with Nafada and Jigawa, as well as the Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, and Miga communities.
Farinloye continued, “Communities along the two Rivers, up to Bayelsa, have been advised to take precautionary measures in the coming days due to the rise in the water levels of the Rivers Benue and Niger.”
He complimented the Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja’s National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub for their forecasts. (NAN)
