Renowned food critic Opeyemi Famakin has shared his thoughts on Davido’s recent list of favorite restaurants in Lagos, and one particular choice has caught his attention: Chicken Republic.
While reacting to the list, which featured names like Cali’s, Zaza, Boho, The Angels, Sora, Nook, and Chicken Republic, Famakin expressed a mix of surprise and hesitant agreement regarding the inclusion of Chicken Republic.
“Chicken Republic? I mean, don’t get me wrong,” he said. “I enjoy their rice and beans with that pepper sauce — is it before pack? That combo is arguably unbeaten among fast food dishes in Nigeria. But how did Chicken Republic enter Davido’s head? I’d like to know exactly what he orders there.”
Famakin, famous for his candid food critiques, confessed that even though Chicken Republic isn’t often considered a premium dining option, it performs well in specific areas. He reflected on how his perspective on fast food has evolved, “Technically, if you ask me to name the best fast food restaurant in Nigeria, I don’t have one. It used to be The Place… then Mega Chicken. But everyone falls off eventually.”
Although he was initially doubtful, the food critic ultimately admitted his mistake, “Actually, if I’m speaking honestly — it’s Chicken Republic. Davido is not wrong.”
