A football match in Brazil was forced to be abandoned when one team was reduced to jut six players with the seventh red card. Vitoria and Bahia hail from the same region of Brazil, near to Salvador, and any fixture between the pair is considered a local derby.
And the match ironically labelled ‘Ba-Vi’ of peace, to promote a peaceful climate on and off the field, ended in disgrace.
The seventh red card of the game, and Vitoria’s fifth, concluded the match well before full time, with Bahia also having two men sent for early baths.
Bahia also had two players sent off from their substitutes bench, making a total of nine players given their marching orders.
“In such cases, the referee must not allow the match to resume after the ball has gone out of play if a team does not have the minimum number of seven players.”
Bahia have been retrospectively awarded a 3-0 victory.
