Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo has insisted the country needs a horde of sacrificing Nigerians for a better Nigeria to become a reality.
At the 12th Bola Tinubu Colloquim in Kano, Mr. Osibanjo said Nigerians must have “A tribe of men and women who are prepared to make the sacrifices and self-constraints that are crucial to building a strong society.”
Also, the vice president demanded Nigerians must be prepared to “stick together, fight for equity, and justice side by side” even though President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has often dealt a fatal blow to Nigerians protesting against human rights violations by the authorities.
Unable to travel to Kano for the event, Mr. Osinbajo gave his speech virtually from the Presidential Villa.
He said, “We believe that we now have an opportunity to increase the numbers of a new tribe of Nigerians; a tribe of men and women of all faiths, tribes, and ethnicities committed to a country run on high values of integrity, hard work, justice, and love of country.”
Not a few Nigerians have accused Mr. Osinbajo, a so-called pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, of sophistry.
He was censured for refusing to speak up in support of helpless Nigerians often brutalized during peaceful protests, particularly failing to speak up against Nigerian soldiers’ invasion of the Lekki toll gate during the #EndSARS protests that caught his government unawares.
Mr. Osinbajo who is considered ‘a good boy’ in the Villa, believed to be always ready to genuflect before Mr. Buhari in his view that Vice presidents across the globe are expected to give unalloyed loyalty to their bosses.
