Former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, Mahmoud Mohammed and the current CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola were sight at the Court of Appeal 2023/2024 legal ceremony.
For the appellate court, the ceremony, which also features a conference and interaction between the justices, marks the beginning of a new term.
Mahmood, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and Onnoghen are seated together in the front row.
Following an ex-parte application submitted at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on February 23, 2019, Onnoghen was fired by former president Muhammadu Buhari as CJN, according to THE WHISTLER.
When the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) charged the former CJN with filing a false assets declaration, his problems began.
Onnoghen left his job, but he later acknowledged in 2021 that “the experience” he had while facing the charges represented “his dark days as a public officer.”
Justices from all over the country can network and discuss the best way to deliver justice at the conference.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike SAN, are among the lawyers present at the ongoing event.
Former Appellate Court justices are present in equal numbers.
