Odefa Obasi Odefa, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the former speaker of the Ebonyi state house of assembly, has left the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
More than 500 supporters from his Onicha East constituency accompanied him on foot to the ruling APC, according to The Nation.
Odefa declared his intention to dump the PDP and join the APC when he visited the government house in Abakaliki, the state capital and met with Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Odefa claimed that he had studied Governor Nwifuru’s excellent intentions, which were encapsulated in his manifesto known as the “People’s Charter of Needs,” and that this was the reason behind his choice to join the APC, which was to assist the governor in his endeavor to improve the state.
According to Nwifuru, the ruling party’s door was open and all well-meaning people might stay in its room.
Along with other Onicha East constituency stakeholders, the former PDP chieftain had already left the party and resigned from the opposition party.
Odefa handed the PDP chairman in his Ogudu Okwor Ward in the local government’s Oshiri village his letter of resignation. On Wednesday, November 8, the former lawmaker gave journalists in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, confirmation of the occurrence. This occurs in the midst of a crisis plaguing the PDP in several states following the party’s defeat by the APC in the 2023 presidential election.
