Former-Emir Sanusi II, Elumelu, Others Arrive New York For 78 UNGA Summit

The wife of the former Senate President, Dr. Toyin Saraki, the former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Group Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, and other prominent Nigerians have arrived in New York, United States, for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The theme of the 78th UNGA is “Rebuilding trust and Reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.”

Musician Yemi Alade, DJ Florence Otedola (also known as DJ Cuppy), well-known poet and author Ms. Karimot Odebode, and Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) secretary-general for Sustainable Energy For All (SEforALL) Damilola Ogunbiyi are just a few notable Nigerians who sighed during the Assembly.

Sanusi II attended a screening of the documentary “The Agreement, the Making of the SDGs” and a panel discussion with Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN.

Elumelu met with President George Weah of Liberia while Dr. Toyin Saraki took part in the SDG Action Weekend. Yemi Alade gave a performance at the SDG Action Weekend opening as the UNDP’s GoodWill Ambassador.

The UNGA 78 had begun on Tuesday, September 5, and the high-level debate had started on Tuesday, September 19.

Halfway through the deadline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda will be reached during the 78th session.

Leaders will assess how the 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs have been implemented at the SDG Summit, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
