Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, has passed away at the age of 86, according to a statement released by the family.
The statement mentioned that she passed away peacefully this morning.
The family, including Michelle and Barack Obama, Craig Robinson and his wife Kelly, and Marian Robinson’s grandchildren, Avery, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin, and Aaron, jointly issued the statement.
“She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her,” the family statement said.
Marian Robinson became well-known as the nation’s first grandmother during Barack Obama’s presidency.
She was often seen at the White House, attending various events and spending time with her granddaughters.
The news of her death has received condolences and support from people across the country. No further details about funeral arrangements or memorial services have been announced yet.
