FRSC Set To Enforce NIN to Obtain Driver’s License

FRSC Set To Enforce NIN to Obtain Driver’s License.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced compulsory NIN linking to obtain a driver license.

In order to complement the Federal Government’s directive to collate citizens’ data through the NIN,

The agency revealed this on Wednesday, December 16 in Abuja in a statement by Mr Bisi Kazeem, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), and Corps Public Education Officer.

The government agency disclosed that the compulsory provision of the NIN to obtain driver’s license nationwide will take effect from Dec. 21. Kazeem noted that the decision was necessary following the Federal Government’s directives on harmonization of citizens’ data by relevant agencies.

He said:

“As a follow up to that, FRSC management has resolved that effective Dec. 21, 2020, all applicants for the National Driver’s License in Nigeria must present the NIN from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

“This is necessary before they can be captured for any class of the licenses produced by the FRSC.”

Kazeem stated that there will be no waiver for anyone, adding that the development will help security agencies in data collation and quick retrievals, to address some of the nation’s security challenges.

He further advised the public to carefully follow the procedures for obtaining their NIN from the NIMC, which must be verified to be authentic, before action could be taken on any license application.

However, the President, Muhammadu Buhari government on Wednesday had approved 173 centers and 30 State government institutions for the National Identity Number, NIN, and enrollment across Nigeria.

The Federal Government revealed this in a statement released on the official website of the National Identity Management Commission titled, “Approved Data Capturing Agents (Digital Identity Ecosystem)”.
