Full Details Why Ooni Of Ife Allowed Pastor Adeboye Seat On The Highest Royal Chair At The Palace

The founder and leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye visited the king of Ile-Ife, Oonirisa Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

It was learnt that the king, in his bid to showcase his belief that God is greater than all kings, decided to offer the highest royal chair to the RCCG pastor. The king took the lowest seat beside the pastor while claiming there is no one greater than God.

There was reportedly a protest from Pastor Adeboye, but the king insisted the pastor can have his seat. The Ooni reportedly insisted that Pastor Adeboye was representing God in his palace, hence deserved the greatest seat.

According to Yoruba culture, no one is allowed to seat on the king’s seat except they’ve gone through the rituals that proclaims them as kings or acting in place of king.

Ooni Ogunwusi is however known to be a bit controversial in his approach to ruling Ile-Ife.

It was reported in 2016 that the Ooni of Ife, who according to tradition is not supposed to bow or knee to anybody, was pictured kneeling at the installation thanksgiving held at St Paul’s Anglican, Ile Ife.

While addressing the controversy that rose after his kneeling the Ooni said: “God is the creator of mankind and it is God who made it possible for the enthronement of any king.

Meanwhile, the Ooni has promoted the immediate Jaaran of Ife, high chief Adekola Adeyeye, as the Second- in-Command. Mr Moses Olafare, the Director, Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, said Adeyeye is now the third on the order of the hierarchy of Ife traditional council, (Ooni-in-Council).

Olafare in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ile-Ife, said that the new position was the reward for loyalty, commitment to service and dedication to Ife Kingdom. According to Olafare, the monarch described Adeyeye as patriotic Ife indigene and great loyalist of the throne of Oonirisa, which he had served meritoriously for 30 years in various capacities.
