Funke Akindele, a well-known Nigerian actress and film producer, has reached a significant milestone. Her latest movie, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” has set a record as the highest-grossing film on its opening day in Nollywood.
The Nigerian Box Office reports that the film, which debuted in theaters last Friday, earned an impressive N45.2 million on its first day, attracting 9,409 viewers.
This milestone beats the record set by Akindele’s earlier film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which was the top film in 2023. Last year, “
A Tribe Called Judah” earned more than N1 billion at the Nigerian box office.
The Nigerian Box Office took to X to celebrate the new record, stating that “Everybody Loves Jenifa” broke box office records yesterday. It had the highest opening day for a Nollywood film, bringing in ₦45.2M! The update also pointed out that the film had 9,409 admissions, surpassing “A Tribe Called Judah,” even though it wasn’t shown at Genesis and had limited screenings at Silverbird Cinemas.
