The recently unveiled nomination list for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) has ignited discussions across social media, with many questioning the absence of renowned actress and Box Office sensation Funke Akindele.
Released on Sunday, March 23, the nomination list featured several acclaimed productions, including Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors and Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi, both securing spots in different categories. However, online users have been speculating why Funke Akindele was not individually nominated, despite her involvement in House of Gaa, which received a nomination. Additionally, her 2024 release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, was not recognized in the lineup.
This isn’t the first time fans have voiced concerns over her AMVCA recognition. Previously, there was disappointment when her blockbuster film A Tribe Called Judah failed to win any awards at the 10th edition, despite earning multiple nominations, including Best Makeup, Best Writing in a Movie, Best Lead Actress, Best Movie, and Best Supporting Actor.

She holds the record for the highest number of nominations as an actress and filmmaker, with six wins to her name. Her accolades include multiple Best Actress in a Comedy awards (2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022), as well as Best Actress in a Drama and Best Director.
