In other news, British actor Idris Elba has announced to the BBC his intention to move to Africa within the next ten years as part of his commitment to enhancing the continent’s film industry.

The 52-year-old, renowned for his role in the acclaimed series The Wire, is involved in early-stage initiatives to establish a film studio in Zanzibar, Tanzania, as well as another in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Having been born in London, Elba has deep roots in Africa, with his mother hailing from Ghana and his father from Sierra Leone.

He aims to utilize his celebrity status to support the growing film sector, emphasizing the importance of Africans having the opportunity to narrate their own stories.

“I would certainly consider settling down here; not even consider, it’s going to happen,” He stated during an interview conducted on the periphery of an industry conference in Accra.

“I think [I’ll move] in the next five, 10 years, God willing. I’m here to bolster the film industry – that is a 10-year process – I won’t be able to do that from overseas. I need to be in-country, on the continent.”

In alignment with the principles of Pan-Africanism, he refrains from dedicating himself to residing in any particular location.

“I’m going to live in Accra, I’m going to live in Freetown [Sierra Leone’s capital], I’m going to live in Zanzibar. I’m going to try and go where they’re telling stories – that’s really important.”
