Gospel singer, Victoria Orenze responds to critics for defining God as 'Jehovah El-Steeze'

Victoria Orenze, a Nigerian gospel singer, has elaborated on her controversial allusion to God as “Jehovah El-Steeze.”

She used the common term “steeze” to express God’s powerful and impressive nature, eliciting varied reactions online.

While some criticized her choice of words, Victoria has now provided clarification, connecting parallels to biblical portrayals of God’s majesty.

In a lengthy essay on X, Victoria defines “Steeze” as a term that denotes excellent flair and poise. She believes God represents this quality, citing scriptural passages that depict Him as a tremendous fire, radiant light, and a force that commands attention.

The singer urged others to look past superficial expressions and see God’s awe-inspiring presence. She noted that the meaning of words like “Steeze” stays consistent even when employed in informal circumstances.

She wrote:

“Steeze is an English word in the dictionary which speaks of a person’s distinctive and impressive way of doing things or style also one who has composure.“God’s distinctive and impressive way, style and composure blows my mind. Scriptures says, He is a consuming fire Heb. 12:29 another says He is wrapped in light meaning He wears light psalms 104:2 another says the cloud is His vehicle psalm 104:3, His eyes are like fire Rev.19:12, 1:14 and His voice like thunder, like the sound of many waters. Another says in His presence mountains skip like ram psalm 114:1-8.

“He is not just composure but everything else created, looses their composure before Him. He is not just covered in light but He is light. Today He can ride on the cloud as His vehicle and tomorrow He is riding the wind. That’s why I call Him my Jehovah El Steeze.

“I follow understanding and revelation not slangs or trends. Pause in your trends and see God. Finally i leave this with us – The fact that we have used the word “Steeze” as a slang or another example word “loose guard” as slangs does not change their meaning in English. Scriptures says the ONE that watches of me neither sleeps nor slumber, So I can safely say my God does not and can never loose guard.”
