Umo Uno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has credited God and the populace with his numerous victories at the election petitions tribunal.

On March 18, 2023, Eno won the governorship election, but six candidates from the opposition parties sought to have it thrown out.

The three-person Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which was presided over by Justice Adekunle Adeleye, issued a series of rulings over the course of four days of which governor Eno was declared winner. He hailed them as a victory for the people over the weekend.

On March 18, 2023, Eno won the governorship election, but six candidates from the opposition parties sought to have it thrown out.

The successive victories, according to Eno, were a confirmation of the wishes freely expressed by the Akwa Ibom people on March 18.

In his thank-you speech, delivered over the weekend in the state capital of Uyo, the governor dedicated the award to God and the people and praised the tribunal for painstakingly weighing all the charges brought against him in the petitions.

According to GISTLOVER checks, the six dismissed petitions against Eno’s election included those filed by John Akpanudoedehe, a candidate for governor for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and Arc. African Democratic Congress (ADC) representative Ezekiel Nya-Etok; Action Alliance (AA) representative Mr. Akpan Jeremiah.

Others include Senator Bassey Albert Akpan of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Mr. Emem Coffie of the Accord Party (AP), Obong Akanimo Udofia of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Mr. Akem Coffie of the Accord Party.

As he extended his hands in friendship to the petitioners, Governor Eno urged the populace to uphold peace and shun politics of resentment. He also urged the harmed parties to join his administration in advancing the state because “politics is over, this is the time for governance.”
