The promotion of 7,000 civil and public servants has been approved by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. 2022 was the deadline for their promotions. Prince Dotun Oyelade, the commissioner for information and orientation, stated that the development was in line with the government’s worker welfare policy over the previous four years during a media briefing on the 7th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of Omituntun 2.0.

According to the commissioner, the Seyi Makinde-led team oversaw the 2017–2021 promotion exercises and approved the advancement of 7, 276 civil servants.

According to Professor Musbau Babatunde, the council approved the reorganization of the 2023 supplemental budget, which will now be submitted for approval to the Oyo State House of Assembly.

According to him, the decision was made because of changes in the state’s macroeconomic fundamentals related to inflation, exchange rates, and interest rates brought about by the twin economic policies of eliminating subsidies and unifying the exchange rate.

According to the commissioner, the state government gave priority to ongoing projects despite their higher costs.

According to him, ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) have requested that their current budget performance be placed in the context of the changes in macroeconomic fundamentals.

According to Babatunde, there was an increase in the 2023 budget from N310 billion to N352 billion.

Additionally, according to the commissioner, some MDAs’ idle funds have been realigned to reflect the state of the economy.

The decisions made at the meeting will be incorporated into the realigned supplemental budget, he said, adding that the Oyo State government is currently in negotiations with the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Babatunde stated that the exco had approved the medium-term expenditure framework (2024–2026), which would serve as the foundation for the 2024 budget.

The approved amount for this is N424.410 billion, up N69.237 billion or 19.49 percent over the N355.172 billion pre-empted figure for 2023.
