Gov Makinde Set To Join another Party.
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has allegedly concluded the plan to decamp from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to another party ahead of 2023 general elections.
The development was confirmed to newsmen by a chieftain of the Nigeria opposition party who begged not to be mentioned to the public.
According to the report on Daily Post, Makinde’s decision was stirred by disagreement with some top members of the party in Oyo.
The anonymous source disclosed to newsmen on Sunday, February 7 that the Oyo State governor would be joining ADC immediately after the forthcoming local government election in the state. He quoted the Makinde saying that he was not satisfied with the current leadership of the PDP in the state.
The governor is said to have been in contact with ADC chieftains among whom are Mrs Monsurat Sunmonu, a former Speaker in the State to have a smooth defection to ADC. The PDP chieftain backed his claims with Whatsapp conversation screenshots between Makinde and members of the PDP in the state.
He further alleged that Makinde left the social media group created by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Engineer Akeem Olatunji on Saturday evening after confronting the Olatunji for posting a video of Fulani herdsmen attack on residents of Ayete, headquarters of Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Olatunji had called on the governor to take urgent steps to save the people of Ayete from incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen and the PDP Publicity Secretary posted it on the platform.
He said, “This video has gone viral but the authority needs to confirm the claim. It’s very urgent to address the message…”
The message, however, reportedly got Makinde furious and exited the group on Saturday. In his reaction, he said: “Everytime some idiots make (sic) a video, the government must respond… I don’t get it really… you need mature people to make meaningful contributions on your platform.”
