Gunmen who raped varsity students will be apprehended — Ogun Govt Pledges

The state government of Ogun has promised its citizens, especially those attending Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun and living in the Abapawa community in Odogbolu Local Government Area, that it will make every effort to apprehend those responsible for the Tuesday robbery and rape of four female students at the university. Robbers who violated university students will face consequences.

A group of thieves reportedly sexually assaulted four university students residing in a private hostel in the Abapawa neighborhood early on Tuesday morning.

The state administration will take all reasonable steps to apprehend the offenders, as promised by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, Salako-Oyedele stated that she had given this assurance on Tuesday following her visit with the rape victims at the Ogun State Hospital in Ijebu Ode. The victims had previously been transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for appropriate medical attention and rehabilitation.

She stated that Ladejobi Adebayo, the chairman of the Odogbolu Local Government, informed the authorities about the event.

She said that security personnel were dispatched to the village right away by Governor Dapo Abiodun to make sure that those in charge were held accountable.

Salako-Oyedele said that Alamutu Abiodun, the state commissioner of police, had visited the location of the event and was making efforts to make sure that the perpetrators were caught so they could face the full fury of aw

Speaking later at a meeting with the varsity management team, representatives of the student body, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu; Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu; Salako-Oyedele stressed the need to forestall a recurrence.

“I am on a fact-finding mission to establish what happened and what could be done to support the victims immediately and subsequently, apprehend the criminals and of course, prevent such a thing happening again,” she said.

She tasked the administration of the school to collaborate with the police, the concerned community, and the students in order to create stakeholder engagements and implement measures that will ensure the safety of the lives and belongings of students living off campus.

The deputy governor expressed how depressing the incident’s news was and assured the irate student union representatives that every effort would be made by the government to bring the culprits to justice.
