Guinness World Records has disabled its ‘cook-a-thon’ category after a Ghanaian chef, Smith, falsified the certificate.
This decision is consistent with the organization’s policy of eliminating records that cannot be adequately measured or validated.
The decision follows a scandal involving Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, who erroneously claimed to have set a new record for the longest cooking marathon.
Guinness World Records has rejected Chef Smith’s claim, claiming that he does not own the title and that his certificate is not genuine.
According to the organization, the current record holder is Alan Fisher of Ireland, who set the record in Japan in 2023 at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds.
Chef Smith faced legal consequences following his contentious press presentation, during which he was approached by security officials over a breach of contract disagreement.
The revelation about the deactivation of the category was made known by a media user who posted a photo, stating that: “Guinness World Records deactivates its “cookathon” category after it seems to have inspired an unstoppable frenzy in certain parts of the world. In Ghana, one contender, displaying a certificate as the new record holder, claims to have cooked for more than 30 days.”
