it is a very bad sight in a community that has 6 oil wells located within it and could not afford to have chairs for the pupils in the only primary school there. The pupils take lessons on a bare floor in a primary school in Delta State.
The photographs of the school were taken on Wednesday, January 17, and it made a lot of terrible exposures about the situation of pupils of Otoro Primary School in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State who sit on bare floor while learning.
The host community, Orhoakpor community is believed to be hosting six oil wells.
The infrastructures in the school are extremely poor as the roofs of the building are almost blown off, which exposes the pupils to dangers and harsh weather. And for the fact that there are no benches in the school, the pupils have taken comfort in sitting on the bare floor to learn in class.
The classrooms do not also have doors, neither are there any staff room for the teachers and the head teacher. A source within the community who wanted to remain anonymous appealed to the Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to come to the rescue of the school with the provision of basic infrastructures and adequate security for the school as the little equipment they have are also carted away by criminals.
The shown photographs expose the lapses of the government in the area of education. Regardless of the poor presence of the Delta State Government in the community, the presence of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, operating the six oil wells in the community is not felt by the people, as there are no access roads to the school even as there is no portable water supply.
At the same time, the only health centre in the community does not have the basic medical facilities.
