“He’s the only son we have” – Abia Poly student drowns in Umuahia river, Family Grief

Chidera Kenneth Ogwuru, a student at Abia State Polytechnic in Aba, died in a drowning accident in the Umuchime River in Ossah Ibeku, Umuahia Local Government Area, Abia State.

The sad event happened as the young kid was swimming with pals on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

Information received indicates that the disaster occurred when Chidera and his pals dove into the water without realizing the depth and flow of the river.

Recounting the incident, Comrade Ugorji Kalu said that the terrible result was caused by the young man’s ignorance of the circumstances of the river.

It wasn’t until his companions discovered that Chidera was drowning that it became clear that he was in trouble; however, their attempts to save him were unsuccessful because it was already too late.

Chidera Kenneth Ogwuru was a student and the only child of his parents. He was born in Uzuakoli, in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
