Nigerian singer Davido Adeleke better known as Davido, has stylishly shamed Nigerian celebrities planning to beg their followers for birthday money and those who post their bank account details online.
Days back, he made a post via his Instagram story, challenging his friends and everyone who had enjoyed his music to send 1 million Naira each to his account.
In what seemed like a joke, Davido’s bank account, in less than 24 hours, raked over N100 million from many celebrities such as Mr Eazi, Nengi, Zlatan, Dorathy Bachor, Oba Elegushi, Cubana Chiefpries and others.
This led to an outrage on social media, with many Nigerian celebrities posting their bank details online and soliciting birthday money from their fans and friends ahead of their birthdays.
It is unclear if some of these celebrities who shared their bank details online received money from their fans or friends like Davido.
However, Davido broke the social media on Saturday, 20th November 2021, after revealing he would donate the N201 million he received as a birthday gift from friends and associates and an extra N50 million to different charity organisations across Nigeria.
Many Nigerian celebrities stormed that page with photos of Davido and showered praises on him as his kind gesture was unexpected.
With Davido’s recent action, it may be difficult for celebrities to solicit fans giveaways or birthday surprise them during their birthday.
And to those who had probably received a token from their fans, some netizens said they should act like Davido by donating to charity.
