  • In recent years, he has focused on achieving self-rule for Biafra, demonstrating his dedication to the region’s independence struggle.
  • Ekpa’s focus reflects the aspirations of many who seek greater autonomy and recognition for Biafra.

Simon Ekpa, an activist championing the cause of Biafra, has expressed that he has made significant sacrifices in his political journey in Finland to dedicate himself to the pursuit of Biafra’s independence.

In a statement released via his official X account on Thursday, Ekpa, who holds the title of Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE), emphasized that he has devoted the last few years to striving for self-governance for Biafra.

This commitment underscores his unwavering dedication to the movement and highlights the persistent struggle for the region’s autonomy.

Ekpa’s dedication mirrors the aspirations of many who seek enhanced autonomy and acknowledgment for Biafra. He asserted that nothing is more important to him than the mission of liberating Biafra from what he perceives as marginalization by the Nigerian government.

“I have decided not to take part in the coming election and focus on Biafra Liberation in Finland.

“I have served my people, community and region since 2012,” he stated.

It is noteworthy that Ekpa has declared that Biafra will be proclaimed on December 2, 2024. This announcement comes in the context of his ongoing criticism of the Nigerian government, despite the impending threat of extradition.

In July 2021, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was re-arrested by the Nigerian authorities and has remained in detention, despite widespread calls for his release.
