Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has bravely shared her experiences of severe abuse during her unsuccessful marriage, indicating that the resulting trauma contributed to her struggle with alcoholism.

In a revealing interview with media figure Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya detailed the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband over a span of ten years, including threats to harm her severely with a knife.

Additionally, she mentioned that he sought to hinder her acting career, imposing limitations on her professional development.

“Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me,” she said. “He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame of people saying I couldn’t keep a man.”
