Hundreds of graves have been destroyed in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade local government council of Yobe State, following a downpour on Monday.

An eye witness told Channels Television on Tuesday that some buried corpses were seen floating on the site, after what he described as one of the heaviest downpours in the state.

He appealed to the government to intervene in the situation quickly.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Goje, has deployed his team on the directives of the executive governor to immediately rehabilitate the graveyard and its perimeter fence so as to forestall further occurrence.

“The executive governor directed that we undertake the immediate rehabilitation of the graveyard and the reconstruction of the perimeter fence,” Goje said.

“Also the ministry of works will be going there with their excavator to evacuate all the blocked waterways”.

Gashua is the hometown of the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, located 187 kilometers away from Damaturu, the State capital.
