Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano state, has condemned the state’s police command and officers’ attitude toward his commands.
Yusuf stated during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House on Wednesday that police officers are refusing to follow his orders as the State’s Chief Security Officer.
He said that all security personnel stationed in Kano comply with him, with the exception of the police, who claim to only follow ‘orders from above’.
The governor stated, “All the security operatives in the state cooperate with me, except the police. Any time I give orders to the police, they refuse to take them, and would say they take orders from above.
“Imagine as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of this state, I cannot give orders to the police. This is frustrating and unfortunate”.
He further said that certain disgruntled politicians intended to hijack the upcoming nationwide protest in order to cause mayhem in the state.
Yusuf stated, “We have intelligence information that some disgruntled opposition politicians are plotting to hijack the upcoming nationwide protests in order to cause mayhem in Kano.”
“They are planning to pose as members of our Kwankwasiyya movement to indulge in burning of buildings and looting of properties to make it look as if it is our supporters that are the ones perpetrating the acts” .
The Governor asked the protesters to conduct themselves calmly and responsibly, and stated that he was prepared to visit them at the Government House and collect their letters of dissatisfaction for onward transmission to the Federal Government.
“I will not run away. I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully,” he said.
