Doyin David, a reality TV star, gave her open views on love and marriage in a recent interview with Olufemi Daniel.
Unlike many others, Doyin does not approach dating with the intention of getting married. Instead, she prioritizes her partner’s company and places a high value on companionship.
She emphasized, “I date for the sake of companionship, not necessarily for marriage.”
While she acknowledges that sex is a natural part of relationship, it is not her major reason for dating.
Doyin is open to a lifelong partnership, regardless of whether it involves legal marriage.
She feels that the essential substance of a relationship is found in connection and friendship, rather than simply signing paperwork.
Her goal is to find a lifelong companion with whom she can share significant experiences and establish a strong bond, with or without the formality of marriage.
“I mean, sex is part of companionship, isn’t it? But it’s not the main reason I’m dating. I date for companionship, not for marriage, so if it doesn’t lead to marriage, I’m fine; we had a good time. But if it does okay, I’m fine with doing a life partnership if a marriage doesn’t come up”, she said.
“At the end of the day, what is marriage? Is it about signing papers? It’s not important to me, and I’m not trying to talk down on constitutional marriage.
“Companionship is important to me, so I would like to have a lifetime of companionship, whether we’re married or not. I just want to have someone who is my person for the rest of my life, so it’s not important to me that we have to be legally married,” she concluded.
