  • He officially registered the genre and created a constitution for it.
  • In a recent interview, he emphasized that his actions were aimed at providing structure and legal recognition, not hijacking the genre.
  • Legendary Fuji musician, K1 De Ultimate, has revealed that he took formal steps to institutionalize Fuji music by officially registering the genre and writing its constitution.

In a recent interview, the music icon clarified that he didn’t hijack the genre but worked to give it structure and legal recognition. “I didn’t hijack Fuji music. I formalized it,” K1 said. “I registered it officially and even drafted its constitution. They sat in my house to do it.”

He explained that Fuji music was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the name “Fuji Music,” and that the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria was created to further protect and promote the interests of artists in the genre.

According to K1, the move was necessary to preserve the cultural legacy of Fuji music and ensure that future generations benefit from a clearly defined and recognized platform.

Despite criticism from some quarters, K1 De Ultimate stood by his efforts, emphasizing the need for structure in the Nigerian music industry—particularly for traditional genres like Fuji. “I wanted Fuji to have a foundation, a system, something that would outlive all of us,” he added.

K1’s efforts have been widely acknowledged as instrumental in elevating Fuji music from local street corners to global stages, making him not just a performer, but a pioneer in the genre’s evolution.
