“I don’t feel loved, especially by the people that calls themselves the gatekeepers” – Omah Lay

Omah Lay, an Afrobeats artist, talks about the hardships he faces in the music industry.

In an interview with Amazon Music, he shared his sentiments of not being liked or recognised by the media.

Omah Lay said that he often goes into a dream world to deal with his “sad reality.”

He thanked his fans, family, and staff for their support, but he also highlighted the hurdles he often faces from the media and industry gatekeepers.

Omah Lay also discussed his experiences as a Nigerian travelling overseas, emphasising the obstacles and harassment he faces because of his Nigerian passport.

He noted that his treatment changes once immigration officers recognize him as the artist Omah Lay.

“I have my fans, family and team but I don’t feel loved especially by the media and the people that call themselves the gatekeepers,” he said.

“This is something I’ve never talked about. I’m that artist that lives in a fantasy world. I just live in my head 90 per cent of the time.”

“Travelling especially being a Nigerian and having the Nigerian passport, I have just seen the cruelty of the world so much.

“The immigration officers often maltreat me once they see the Nigerian passport until they realise that I’m Omah Lay that’s when the treatment changes.”

Omah Lay had announced break from music few months ago.

The ‘Understand’ crooner took to his Instagram story to make the announcement as he informed his fans not to expect new music from him anytime soon. Omah Lay wrote:

“I am not giving you new music anytime soon.”

He didn’t disclose the reason for his break from music. However, in another post, the singer stated;
