Temilade Openiyi, often known as Tems, a prominent Nigerian musician, has spoken out about her love life, saying that she has never been in love.
The 28-year-old singer expressed her sentiments during a recent episode of the Flow With Korty show.
Tems disagreed with the popular proverb, “Love is blind.” According to her, love is not a feeling felt blindly, but rather an intentional decision made with full knowledge.
“I haven’t been in love,” Tems explained. “For me, loving someone means saying, ‘I see you and I still want to be in your life.'” Even if you irritate me at times, I will always choose you. I’d like to be in love, to have a deep yet genuine experience rather than being blind. I do not believe that love is blind; I believe that if you truly love someone, you love them with your eyes open.”
She went on to say that many individuals mix infatuation with love.
Tems defines true love as seeing and embracing someone’s shortcomings while still desiring to be with them.
“If you’re blind, that is not love,” she added. “Love is when you’ve seen the person, their flaws are visible, and you’re like, ‘I still want it. I still want that.’ I want someone to see my imperfections and still desire to be with me.”
