“I emptied my bank account to support Tinubu’s election” – Asari Dokubo

  • Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo disclosed that he invested over $2 million in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign during the 2023 presidential election.
    • Dokubo stated that the significant financial commitment was made with the expectation that Tinubu’s leadership would bring positive change to the region.
    • The former National President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) disclosed this during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show.

Asari Dokubo, the former leader of militants in the Niger Delta, disclosed on Tuesday that he has withdrawn all funds from his bank account, investing more than $2 million to back President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election campaign.

Dokubo emphasized that this significant financial investment was driven by his conviction that Tinubu’s governance would foster beneficial transformations in the region.

The former National President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) shared this information during his appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show.

According to Dokubo: “If Tinubu encounters any difficulty, I will still stick out my neck and stand for him because, at a time, he stood for me.

“In all my podcasts, I personally said my needs are very small, so what I’m trying to say is very clear: with Tinubu becoming president, I should be able to tell him the truth.

“I can’t be appointed as a minister or into any board; I did not lobby for anything, so it’s not personal. Yes, I emptied my bank account and spent over two million US dollars; I can’t count what I spent in Naira. I didn’t take a dime from anybody except Ijakry, who gave me N300 million.”
