American rapper Soulja Boy explained why he took the stage at a Donald Trump inauguration ball.
He, along with Nelly and Snoop Dogg, has faced criticism from fans who believe they let them down by agreeing to perform at the event.
In response to the backlash, Soulja Boy stated that he was paid for his performance.
He stated that he never got any money from former President Barack Obama or outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democrat presidential candidate, but that Trump made him richer.
Speaking in an Instagram Live video, Soulja said, “They paid me a bag. Obama ain’t never put no money in my fcking pockets, ngga. Kamala ain’t never put no money in my fcking pockets, ngga. Trump put money in my pockets, n*gga.”
Nelly mentioned that performing at Trump’s inaugural ball was a way to show respect and “not for the money.”
Snoop Dogg has not yet addressed the backlash.
